INSTRUCTIONS FOR
MAKING FIRST EUCHARIST BANNERS
MATERIALS:
Felt
burlap or heavy material for banner. 12'" X 20" for felt or 14"
X 21 " for a material that may fray. Material for letters and symbols
could be cut from iron-on patches to eliminate gluing. Many craft stores sell packages of precut
letters. Other items needed may be
Elmer's glue (or any white fabric glue), sharp scissors and pins and possibly a
sewing machine or needle and thread.
Some patterns for letters and some symbols are attached. A dowel and string for hanging will be
needed.
FINISHED SIZE OF BANNER SHOULD
BE 12" x 18" TO FIT NICELY AT THE END OF THE PEW.
DIRECTIONS:
Buy or
cut the fabric. Press.
Turn
one end of length over to make a 2" hem. If fabric ravels, it will be
necessary to hem sides and also the bottom of length. Hem can be machine
stitches or hand sewn.
Make a
paper pattern for letters and symbols. Trace on material and cut out. Child's
name will be on the banner.
Position
words and symbols on banner. Glue in place. Be careful not to glue too heavily
or it will seep through. If this happens, blot gently. It will not show when dried.
Please let your child work with you on this project. It will be a fun
experience.
You
will need a dowel and string for hanging.
On the
day of your child's First Communion, you will place the banner on the end of
the pew where you will find your child's First Eucharist certificate.
