Dear Second Grade Families,

I feel privileged to have this opportunity to work with your second grader.  This year should be an exciting one full of learning, teamwork and faith formation.  I am a firm believer that education should be enjoyable; children should look forward to coming to school each day.  While the academic development of each child is important, spiritual, social and emotional growth are critical components also.

I hope your child enjoyed our first day of school!  The first week of school is a settling in time.  We'll be doing some activities together that will help us to get to know each other and establish our classroom routines.

Homework is written down in the blue homework folder your child brought home today.  I request that an adult sign or initial the assignment sheet each night.  Our homework this week is to read for a minimum of 15 minutes.  A child may read alone, aloud to someone or listen to someone read to them.  I request that the title of the book is written down on the record sheet by the second grader. (Adult assistance is certainly acceptable.)  Each week the assignment and reading record sheet should be kept in the folder.

All classroom supplies are needed in school as soon as possible.  If your child did not return the Summer Reading Calendar (and red folder) today but DID read over the summer, then please send in a list of what was read to help me learn about your child as a reader.

I will share more specific information about my plans and routines for this year next week during open house.  I will send home a schedule of specials when everything is finalized.  Children should wear their gym uniforms on Friday.

Please don't hesitate to contact me either at school (439-5573) or by email (sta2miller@yahoo.com).  Our classroom web page is available: (http://homestead.com/millergrade2).  You are welcome to sign our guest book.

                                                            Sincerely,

                                                            Miss Kimberly Miller
